    Abstract:

Glutathione peroxidase 1 (GPx-1) catalyzes hydrogen peroxide, lipid peroxide and peroxynitrite with glutathione as substrate, which can reduce intracellular oxidative stress and participate in the protective mechanism of brain pathological oxidative metabolism. This review mainly summarizes the mechanism of GPx-1 gene mediated effect on a variety of neurodegenerative diseases from the understanding of the correlation between GPx-1 polymorphism and the development of various brain diseases (Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, epilepsy, cerebral infarction, etc.).
